Session Overview:
This session identifies the supports needed in order for people with IDD to thrive in a culturally responsive and inclusive environment. The values normalized by a predominately racialized and able-bodied environment will be questioned within the context of providing professional disability supports and services. Cultural and linguistic representation, inclusive strategies, and assets-based support are emphasized as promising tools to engage all members of the IDD community.
Session Goals:
- Reflect on environments and values normalized by predominately racialized and able-bodied people
- Define asset based support
- Consider the cultural experiences of those we support in our individual roles using a DEI lens
